Coverage Explanations & Examples

  • Bodily Injury Liability: Covers injuries you cause to others. Example: If you cause a car accident and someone is hurt, this helps pay their medical bills.
  • Property Damage Liability: Covers damage you cause to others' property. Example: If you hit a neighbor's fence or car, this pays for repairs.
  • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury (UM BI): Protects you if hit by drivers with little or no insurance. Example: If an uninsured driver causes injury, this helps cover your medical costs.
  • Underinsured Property Damage (UM PD): Covers your vehicle if the at-fault driver’s property damage insurance is too low. Example: If a driver with low insurance damages your car, this covers the difference.
  • Medical Payments: Pays your and your passengers’ medical bills after an accident, regardless of fault. Example: Covers ambulance or ER costs after a crash.
  • Collision Deductible: The amount you pay before insurance covers your vehicle’s collision damage. Example: If you have a $500 deductible, you pay the first $500 for repairs.
  • Comprehensive Deductible: The amount you pay before insurance covers non-collision damage (theft, weather, vandalism). Example: If a tree falls on your car, you pay the deductible before coverage kicks in.
